Condition & Value Assessment
Condition Grade
Near Mint (NM 7)
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $350 - $550; PSA 7: $600 - $750; PSA 8: $1,200 - $1,500; PSA 9: $4,500+
Recent Sales
Recent eBay sales for PSA 7 examples have ranged from $650 to $800. Ungraded examples in similar 'NM' condition typically fetch between $400 and $550 depending on the sharpness of the corners.
Condition Details
The centering is shifted slightly to the left (approx 65/35). Top-left corner shows very light touch of wear. Surface appears clean through the top-loader, but typical Topps 1985 rough-cut edges are present.
Grading Recommendation
Highly Recommended. This is an iconic rookie card of a Hall of Fame legend. Even at a mid-grade (PSA 6 or 7), the value and liquidity increase significantly. If it hits an 8 due to the surface cleanliness, the value jumps substantially.
Card Description
Features Mario Lemieux in his Pittsburgh Penguins white home jersey with the iconic number 66 visible. Design includes a vertical 'pin-up' style nameplate on the left side with a yellow push-pin graphic. Penguins logo is in the top left corner.
Notable Features
Official Rookie Card (RC) of Mario Lemieux. Note that the Topps version has a 'matte' card stock compared to the glossier Canadian O-Pee-Chee counterpart.
Authentication Notes
The card exhibits correct 1985 Topps printing patterns (benday dots in the orange name bar) and appropriate card stock aging. The 'push-pin' graphic is sharp, which is a common check for counterfeits.
